Week 21 - Put Your Feet Up and Relax
You may notice your legs - and particularly your ankles - are swollen by the end of the day, especially if you are on your feet a lot. This is called edema and is due to the extra blood and fluid circulating through your body during your pregnancy. Edema is common, normal and harmless; however, if you notice sudden swelling in your face or hands, this could be a sign of preeclampsia and you should tell your doctor right away. You may also start experiencing leg cramps at night, which are also due - in part - to the extra fluid and blood in your body. Just another reason to put your feet up and relax for a bit!
