My Baby - Week by Week PregnancyWeek 41 - In Good CompanyYour baby is still packing on the weight, just more slowly now. He or she is taking this time to settle more deeply into your pelvis, in preparation for birth. Although he or she has run out of room in your uterus for big kicks or punches, you should still feel regular movement; if you don't, tell your health care provider. Don't worry if you're still waiting for the big day - you're in good company. Ninety-five percent of babies are born either in the two week period before or after their due date and the "average" first baby is born four days after its estimated due date. Sometimes pregnancies just last longer than normal, but the most common reason a pregnancy extends beyond 40 weeks is an incorrect due date. After all, your due date was just a best guess, based on your last menstrual period and periodic measurements taken of your baby. Learn more: Due Date How is your body changing this week?
