Fetal Development by MonthAlthough every baby develops differently, this guide will give you an idea of how your baby is growing and developing throughout your pregnancy. Sixth Month Your baby is about 11 to 14 inches long (head to toe) and weighs a hefty 1.5 pounds. His or her eyelids begin to part and the eyes are open for short periods of time. Her lungs are continuing to develop and she is practicing breathing - she may even have her first case of the hiccups soon. As your belly begins to bulge and the skin is stretched, you may begin to experience tight, itchy skin. Daily application of a moisturizing lotion can help relieve some of the discomfort. Your extremities may be increasingly swollen - especially by the end of the day or if you spend a lot of time on your feet. Wear supportive, low-heeled shoes and elevate your feet whenever possible. If you notice dramatic swelling over a short period of time, call your doctor. This may be a sign of preeclampsia. First Month
