Sibling Care Checklist

It would be a good idea for you to plan childcare for your older children before you go into labor. It may also help to have a few alternates just in case one falls through. If you can, have someone come to the house instead of taking your children to them to minimize disruption and stress on them (seeing you in labor and the impending arrival of a new sibling can be very stressful for young children). If you decide to taken the children to a friend or relative's house, help them to be more comfortable in the setting with a trial run (or two) before your due date. A checklist of bedtimes, allergies, doctor's phone numbers and favorite activities will also be helpful information for the caretaker.

When labor begins call:

To get organized with any activities for your other children after you have the baby, here's a checklist to help keep things in order.

Here are some examples of activities/places:

  • Lessons - music, swimming, dance
  • Sport Events - games, practices, tournaments
  • Doctor Appointments - routine, dentist, eye doctor
  • Other activities - movies, outings, sleepovers
