My Pregnant Body - Week by Week PregnancyWeek 31 - Breastfeeding and Formula FeedingYour breasts have begun producing colostrum, your baby's first meal (if you decide to breastfeed). The decision to breastfeed or formula feed is a completely personal one. If you aren't sure which method you will use (or a combination of both), or if you have questions and concerns, ask your health care provider or make an appointment with a lactation consultant. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends breastfeeding as the most nutritious way to feed your baby and breast milk contains a variety of nutrients that, along with your baby's stem cells, help maintain his or her healthy immune system. Formula contains an easily-digestible and, in some cases, hypo-allergenic combination of vitamins and nutrients for your baby. Whatever you choose, both methods require some equipment and now is a great time to stock up!
