Japa (chanting God's name)

The tone of voice and words we use to speak have a deep influence on our spirit. The vibrations from a person's voice can usually tell you whether they are being sincere and whether they are feeling anger, frustration, or peace and joy.

This world is made up of vibrations. Different notes vibrate at different rates, colors change based on the speed at which they vibrate. One can sense the vibrations of a person without even speaking to them many times. This is why it is so important to be sincere in your words and to not throw them around in useless chatter. Once your words are used as tools of vibration, then they become truly powerful.

Many yogi's say that chanting is half the battle. Some advise chanting the same mantra all day, everyday, for months at a time. Chant or sing in your meditation as you breathe deeply and concentrate on your third eye, or the point between your eyebrows. Imagine that the words are coming directly from your heart, up through your chest and out the point between your eyebrows. Chant in your mind throughout your day. Here are some suggested chants, although you can make up your own depending on how they feel to you:

  • Ohm…..
  • Aum, Peace, Peace, Peace
  • I am thine; receive me
  • Reveal Thyself
  • Who am I?
  • Om Namah Shivaya (Rough translation: Om and salutations to that which I am capable of becoming.)
  • Om Mani Padme Hum (Rough Translation: Om, salutations to The Jewel of Consciousness (the mind) which has reached the heart's lotus.)
  • Har or Hara (meaning Creative Infinity)
  • Ong (the Primal Vibration from which all creativity flows)

Keep it Simple

For lasting peace, learn to simplify your life wherever you can. The more outstanding bills to pay, appointments to make, phone calls to take and people to meet, the more daily stress you are likely to experience. Getting rid of credit cards can be a great step in reducing stress. Limiting your availability by shutting off your phone or internet is unheard of these days but it will save you from loads of stress. Keep your eye on necessities and don't pine over things you can't have or don't need. If you have a roof over your head, food to eat and love in your home, then all is well and you are blessed with wealth. Notice the things that hang in your mind that do not affect your survival and see if you can do without some of them.
